Purpose of the Job

The role of Kindergarten Teacher and assistant within the Kindrogan Somerville School is a unique undertaking as we are developing a new model of education and care in Scotland that will meet the needs of our children today and in the future to come. The Kindergarten Teacher  and assistant, will be working in partnership with the therapeutic team to provide the most conducive environment for learning and healing.

We know that to fulfil our true potential as individuals, we must alongside learning, also heal from the wounds of our earthly existence on our journey so far through life. For this reason, we are currently providing Art Psychotherapy for all students, this includes support for families; in doing so we are creating a systemic approach to learning and healing, seeing the whole child but also acknowledging the child as a part of a larger system that includes the family and extending governing networks.

The Kindergarten teacher assistant will aid and assist the Kindergarten teacher; resonating with their approach and rhythm to create a nurturing and harmonious environment. This will involve cleaning, tidying, singing, crafting, baking and cooking. You will also assist with toilet breaks, snack time and outside play time supervision.

You will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team and an integral part of the whole learning/therapeutic process. As a Kindergarten Teacher you will also be educating fellow staff about the Steiner/Anthroposophical approach, rhythms and structures of the school and demonstrating ways of working and being that other members of staff and the students can emulate. In turn, the teaching staff will learn about the psychodynamic approach and benefit from its many levels of support and reflective practice. In the fullness of time, we anticipate this will evolve to establish a professional body who are experienced and knowledgeable about both the Steiner/anthroposophical approach and the psychodynamic methodology.

Any appointment will be conditional on an enhanced DBS check and 2 acceptable references. All staff will also have an up-to-date qualification in Child Protection and paediatric first aid (this can be updated in-house).
